BABY MASSAGE- IAIM ACCREDITED COURSE
Learn a beautiful parenting tradition with many benefits for both you and your baby.
Baby massage is a lovely way to deepen the connection to your child and to feel confident about positively nurturing your little one through touch.
I teach the authentic and traditional IAIM full body baby massage. We keep to a small group size and classes are informal, relaxed and very baby friendly.
Babies love to be held and touched by their parents. A regular massage provides the perfect opportunity to meet your baby’s needs through skin-to-skin contact and deepens the bond between you.
The benefits of baby massage are many. Baby massage aids relaxation and sleep, may help relieve wind and colic and promotes healthy development and physical well being. It's not only baby that benefits as giving a massage can also be relaxing in itself. We know it can lower stress hormones and increase oxytocin which is the hormone of love.
The Birthgently baby massage course offers much more than just the practical strokes of how to massage your baby. Each weekly session covers the theory of massage and positive nurturing touch, as well as time for chatting with other parents about various baby related topics. The fee is per family. No extra charge for twins. Two carers welcome to attend. Dads are always welcome.
Parents often worry about what will happen if their baby is asleep or is crying or needs a feed. The classes are very baby friendly which means babies are welcome to be babies. We follow their lead so this is a place where you can totally relax. You can focus on meeting your babies needs, there is no other agenda! Parents also worry if they miss a week or can't massage their baby during class. We repeat the strokes every week and I am available either at the start or end of class to talk you through anything you are not sure about. There is a doll to practice on if you baby is asleep and you will have detailed handouts for all of the massage routine.
"It is through our hands that we speak to the child. That we communicate. Touch is the child's first language, understanding comes long after feeling"

The International Association of Infant Massage
The International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM), was founded in 1986 by Vimala McClure. Vimala was the first person to develop a programme for teaching parents how to massage their babies. Through the IAIM Vimala has brought the ancient art of Baby Massage to the West, with over 60 countries now teaching her routine of positive nurturing touch.
Vimala's simple and beautiful routine brings together a combination of Indian and Swedish massage traditions, incorporating the principals of yoga and reflexology to promote interaction and bonding, stimulation of the body systems, relaxation and sleep, and relief from ailments such as colic.
